Revealed: Mormon Church History is Catholic – LDS Ideas
There is no indication in history that there was any other type of early church other than the Catholic church itself. One must remember that when dealing with the Mormons that they feel that Mormonism goes all the way back into the historical part of the New Testament. If you were to ask them to show support that the Church of Mormon existed back then it is most difficult for them to come up with any evidence other than what they believe in the book of Mormons.
Unfortunately this book as well really has no historical background. The book of Mormons will go back into centuries ago dealing with North and South America. This is where it would seem that Joseph Smith has put all of his emphasis when it comes to his vision. In the historical sense as outlined in the book there is no other writings to support what Joseph reports in the book of Mormon.
In almost any Christian religion they have some sort of support whether it be strong or not in the background of their religion. This is not something that is so with the Mormons. There is a lot of reference back to many of the historical battles but nothing to show that a descendant was in any way related to what is being taught today by the Mormon. One would think that if there was any validity to their teachings that that there should be some type of artifacts or historical writings to support what they teach. Even the many battles that Joseph refers to in the book of Mormon has nothing to support it.
The fullness of the Gospel when the Mormons are referring to it in their doctrine of salvation is the interpretation or definition of this is the fullness of the Gospel. All the ordinances and principles are maintained in the book of Mormon but not the doctrine of salvation.
It becomes a little bit controversial as they are teaching one thing by word-of-mouth and yet they are a book does not contain all of the ordinances that they are preaching. They do not go into showing that the doctrine is nothing more than of a man that was of flesh and bones. Their doctrine will show that they stand on their belief that Christ is the spirit brother of Lucifer and that men can become gods so it would seem that one thing is being preached while another thing is being written as much of this is not contained in the book.
Basically what it comes down to is there are three major fallacies when it comes to Mormonism. First of all as mentioned there is no historical or artifacts to support any of their historical claims. The book of Mormon itself contains none of the major doctrines that the Mormons teach. Finally the book itself is full of many factual errors and plagiarism that is taken from other works so it is easy to see why many Christians will not stand on the beliefs of the Mormon.
